The laboratory at Norton Sound Regional Hospital is a Joint Commission Certified laboratory. Staffing includes positions for four MT/LS and a Technologist/Manager as well as two full time Phlebotomists and one part-time Phlebotomist position. The work-week is 17 hour days Monday through Friday, with the remainder being worked as “on call”. The laboratory supports a busy inpatient nursing service and an equally busy outpatient clinic and specialty clinic. We do a lively outpatient business from each of the fifteen villages that Norton Sound Regional Hospital supports. We also provide, as an aid to local businesses, a drug testing collection facility with service to four testing laboratories. |

The laboratory service is proud of its combination of “state-of-the-art” instrumentation, to include a Siemans Dimension Expand plus, two ABX Pentra C+’s, a Sysmex CA 500 for coagulation studies, an Opti CCA-TS for blood gases, a Siemans MicroScan Auto-scan 4, for bacterial identification and sensitivities, and a Becton Dickenson Probe-Tech for performing GC/Chlamydia studies. All instruments and Technologists are challenged three times a year utilizing the “American Proficiency Institute” Proficiency Testing Program. The laboratory at Norton Sound Regional Hospital takes pride in its work and is looking forward to expanding our capabilities as we move into our new hospital in 2012-2013. The laboratory staff is pleased to be of service to western Alaska. |
