Norton Sound Health Corporation recognizes the value of being actively involved in building a healthy community. Healthy communities foster healthy people.
Partnering and collaborating with other agencies, we all can provide more services. Collaboration is consistent with our mission to provide quality health services and promote healthy choices within our community.
As a community-driven organization, we welcome you to join our ongoing efforts to deliver quality health services. Community partnerships we are involved in include:
Diabetes Prevention Program. The main goal of this program is to implement a primary prevention program to decrease the prevelance of Diabetes. This program partners with the Nome Recreation Center in running Summercise, a summer exercise and nutrition education program for kids. We partner with Nome-Beltz High School, using their pool to offer a popular water aerobics class. We also work closely with village tribal councils to organize village health fairs.
Child Advocacy Center. A child-friendly & culturally appropriate center for the investigation of child sexual abuse. The Center brings agencies together in a multi-disciplinary team approach for the process of investigation, case tracking services referral and prosecution of offenders with the overall goal of reducing trauma to children. The Center will also focus on the prevention of child maltreatment in the region.
Sexual Assault Response Team (SART). This team includes Nome police, prosecutors, Alaska State Troopers, NSHC nurses, and others involved in collecting evidence needed to prosecute sexual assault cases. NSHC staff recently organized a SART training in Nome that drew participants from around the state.
Efforts to work with intoxicated patients. The Nome Police Department, Alaska State Troopers, Anvil Mountain Correctional Center staff and NSHC together developed a system to better meet the needs of intoxicated patients who, in the past, had been dropped off at the hospital emergency room.
These efforts are making a difference in our communities. Please join us!
