In addition to filling medication prescriptions, the pharmacy department provides a number of related services:
- Consumer consultations and education – customers have the opportunity to speak with a pharmacist in person and in private. Verbal and printed instructions are provided to customers.
- Provider consultations and education – Clinic providers and nurses consult on old and new therapies, and issues related to medication use prior to medications being prescribed.
- Anticoagulation clinic – Patients on anticoagulants are monitored for appropriateness of therapy. All Coumadin, heparin, and lovenox patients are included in this clinic.
- Village clinics – Medications are shipped on a daily basis to patients in the villages. Consultation with village based midlevel providers and Community Health Aides on questions or concerns with medication.
- Pill box (Mediset) patients – Most geriatric patients in the community are placed on a weekly mediset program. This program ensures compliance and an easy-to-follow schedule for all medications.
- Inpatient services – Counseling of patients on their medication prior to discharge.
- Clinic inspections – Our 15 clinics are inspected by pharmacy staff in order to keep with The Joint Commission requirements.
- Pyxis delivery system – Pyxix medication dispensing machines are located on the Inpatient Unit, in the ER, and in QCC allowing for appropriate dispensing of medication or supplies by staff.
