Public Service Announcements

Norton Sound Health Corporation and the Nome Local Emergency Planning Committee are closely monitoring the ongoing swine influenza outbreak.

The Alaska Department of Health and Social Services currently recommends people with a recent travel history to Mexico AND flu-like symptoms see their healthcare provider. Flu-like symptoms include fever, body aches, headache, cough, runny nose, sore throat, and fatigue.

This year's flu vaccine is NOT known to be protective against Swine Flu. However, flu shots are still available and recommended by the CDC and State of Alaska for those who have not already received the flu vaccine.

You can protect yourself and your family from illness by
  1. Washing your hands or using hand sanitizer
  2. Covering your cough or sneeze
  3. Staying home if you are sick
